CONFORTABLE HELL

confortable hell

15 esculturas de gomaespuma y tela de 1,5 x 1 x 0,25cm

Eugenio Ampudia transforms Bramante’s Templete into a chill-out area or resting place for tourists with llama-shaped beanbags so that visitors can relax to the unsettling sound of crackling flames. The seats can be moved around as visitors wish, so they can take photos or change their location. The artist plays with the allusion to hell, on the one hand talking about the symbolic desacralization of a space, on the other hand pointing to tourist hell and also making an ironic nod to climate change.
Finally, he offers a reinterpretation of the traditional idea of heritage through a palimpsest of artistic trends and historical periods, offering visitors a different experience from the usual one when visiting such an iconic monument as the temple.

This work is part of a broader project under the same title, A Comfortable Hell, which includes a solo exhibition in the exhibition hall of the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome, along with specific interventions in different spaces throughout the city of Rome.
