Evacuate Madrid was an urban action that reclaimed—at least for one night—the original purpose of the Puerta de Alcalá. This purpose was none other than to serve as the city’s main entry and exit point. Eugenio Ampudia invited Madrid residents to pass through the iconic monument. Each time a spectator exited through the “gate,” their figure was briefly illuminated with 324 watts of light, accompanied by music composed specifically for the occasion. Finally, each participant received a certificate verifying their evacuation and their position in the lineup.
