Eugenio Ampudia’s action, Be a Tree Now!, proposes a new perspective on our relationship with other species. It is a call from the art world to join in a highly symbolic gesture. Anyone who feels identified with the idea can go to beatreenow.org to represent themselves as a tree by making a few simple movements with their arms in front of their device’s camera.

The result is a 25-second video, ready to be shared, in which the movement of the arms is superimposed sequentially to resemble the crown of a tree. The model to follow is performed by a dancer from the National Dance Company with a costume code that facilitates the representation of the person as a tree.

Be a Tree Now! addresses the demand for climate justice with a positive and inclusive message. It is an open, cross-cutting, and participatory work that will conclude in 2024 with an audiovisual piece by the artist documenting the action.
