In play, Ampudia displays his sense of humor, as well as a certain political dimension. This three-minute looping video presents footage from an epic football match between Germany and Brazil during the 2002 World Cup. Instead of a football, however, we see a copy of the book *The Impact of the New*, by art critic Robert Hughes. The football players, like the artist, are literally kicking critical ideas and concepts about art.
One might ask: Is this a struggle for artistic dominance between the “new world”—in the form of Brazil—and the “old world”—represented by Germany? Ampudia offers no answer.
