Rebel Library is a dynamic installation in which thirteen books take on a life of their own in the library where they are placed. An electromechanical mechanism allows each of these books to “rebel” by protruding from their place in a gentle, sustained cadence. Each of these fourteen books refers to historical episodes of insurrections, revolts, revolutions, and utopian social experiments doomed to failure. These books, which demand attention, standing out from the rest with their own momentum, form a gallery of untimely rebels, impossible revolutions, desperate uprisings, and forgotten historical moments led by radicals and visionaries.
