STAMPEDE
2016
stampede
site-specific for the CAB in Burgos
projections on silk, and audio
The Stampede project, created exclusively for the CAB by Eugenio Ampudia, reflects on emptiness, on the impossibility of grasping knowledge in a time dominated by vertigo and noise. Knowledge seems to have condensed into hyper-specialized discourses, perverting language by converting the signifier (the linguistic sign) into meaning (the sense of what we say). Stampede creates an illusory atmosphere, a spinning vortex that traps the viewer under successive transparencies through which various chained projections are filtered. The result is a cosmic labyrinth, a kind of celestial vault spinning around our heads. In short, a concrete space, without limits and yet structured in a way that only nature is capable of creating, a beautiful metaphor for the speed at which ideas are consumed and the physical experience of their perception.
